Welcome to Tech for Today

Technology, explained by a patient neighbor.

Free, friendly lessons for anyone in St. Charles who feels a step behind on computers, phones, and the internet. No question is too basic.

About us

Our mission

Tech for Today empowers people in St. Charles, Missouri to use technology with confidence, safety, and independence through free, patient, hands-on help from volunteers in their own community.

Maybe you're sending your first email, setting up video calls with family, or trying to tell a real text message from a scam. A volunteer will sit beside you and go one step at a time, as many times as you need. Every session is free.

Why I started Tech for Today

I'm Tim, a high school student here in St. Charles. Technology keeps changing, and not everyone has someone nearby who can explain it patiently or help double-check whether a message is a scam. I started Tech for Today so anyone in our community can get that help for free, from a neighbor who's happy to explain things one more time.

What we can help with

If your question is on this list, or anywhere near it, we can work through it together.

  • Phones and tablets

Texting, photos, settings, and the apps that are actually worth having.

  • Email and video calls

Sending, replying, attaching photos, and seeing family face to face.

  • Scams and online safety

How to spot fake texts, calls, emails, and pop-ups before they cost you anything.

  • Passwords

How to make strong ones and keep them private. Not on sticky notes, and never shared with us.

  • Getting around online

Searching the web, using maps, and telling trustworthy websites from sketchy ones.

  • Computer basics

Mouse, keyboard, files, printing, and what to do when you're stuck.

How a session works

No experience needed, and nobody is graded.

  1. Pick a session

Choose a class from the calendar below. Every session is free and open to everyone.

  2. Bring your device and questions

Bring your phone, tablet, or laptop and its charger. Jot down whatever has been bugging you.

  3. Learn by doing

You do each step yourself, with a volunteer beside you, at your own pace. Take notes home to practice.

Prefer one-on-one help?

Request a free session with a volunteer, in person at a public place, by video call, or by phone. The form takes about 3 minutes, and a volunteer will reach out within a few days to set up a time.

Request one-on-one help

Your private information stays private

Volunteers will never ask for your passwords, PINs, bank or card numbers, or Social Security number, and they won't sign in to your accounts for you. If someone claiming to be from Tech for Today asks for any of these, it isn't us.
